Dr. Viola L. Acoff, Project Manager of Alabama LSAMP and Associate Dean for Undergraduate and Graduate Programs in the College of Engineering, introduced Dr. Mae C. Jemison, the first African-American woman to travel in space, at the 2017 WiSE Symposium held at The University of Alabama Bryant Conference Center on March 4, 2017. Dr. Acoff and Dr. Luoheng Han (Associate Provost for Academic Affairs; formerly Sr. Associate Dean in the College of Arts & Sciences) co-organized this year’s symposium for women in STEM. Dr. Jemison was the keynote speaker. Alabama LSAMP students from Stillman College, University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) and The University of Alabama participated in the symposium.
